What’s the squeeze with Lemon Squeezy?
Lemon Squeezy, as a Merchant of Record, handles legal and tax aspects of your sales. But, they represent many businesses, which leads to exceeding nexus thresholds.
Here’s the catch: Lemon Squeezy buys your products and resells them, making your customers their clients. This leads to two issues. First, as a Merchant of Record, they surpass tax thresholds in every jurisdiction, which may cause your customers to pay more in taxes (up to 25% in EU and globally). Second, if Lemon Squeezy hits a snag, you could lose customers, money, and your ability to sell.

When it comes to payouts, you can only withdraw your funds twice a month, and you’re on the hook for potential currency exchange costs, as payouts are only in USD. Plus, you’re required to fill in forms like W-8 and W-9, even if you’re selling from outside the US you’re still left with the paperwork.
Lemon Squeezy could also be clearer about their additional fees, which are only detailed further in the fine print. But that’s a topic for another paragraph.
A closer look at costs
Both Easytools and Lemon Squeezy offer reasonable commission fees, but the latter may turn out more expensive than declared 5%, when you are selling outside the US, offering subscriptions, or using affiliates. So let’s look into details.
Easytools currently offers three pricing plans, each tailored to different sales volumes:
- Side project - $29/month with a 3% commission
- Full-time creator - $59/month with a 2% commission
- Entrepreneur - $99/month with a 1% commission
Easytools also charges a commission based on Stripe, our payment processor, currently ranging from 1.5% to 2.9%. Depending on your plan, country of registration, and your customers’ location, your total fee for a single transaction will range from 2.5% to 5.9%.
In contrast, Lemon Squeezy charges a fixed 5% + 50¢ per transaction, with Stripe fees already included. However, they also add some additional transaction-related fees:
- +1.5% for international transactions (outside the US)
- +0.5% fee for subscription payments
- +1.5% for PayPal transactions
- 1% per payout for banks outside the US
So, your total cost can range from 5% + 50¢ to 7% + 50¢ per transaction.

In the seller panel, you can pick from six themes and adjust the color scheme. But Lemon Squeezy doesn’t let you add your own checkboxes or custom fields from the dashboard, nor can you add your own Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy. These can only be added in your product description.
While you can tweak elements around the checkout with CSS, Lemon Squeezy gives you fewer options for customizing the shopping experience to match your brand.
Lemon Squeezy also misses out on 1-click payments. Filling the cart with the same data over and over is a drag and can put customers off making another purchase, reducing your conversion.

Lemon Squeezy doesn’t offer a countdown timer for deals or the feature of showing the old crossed-out price next to the new, lower price. This could be a big drawback, as customers won’t see their potential savings and may be less likely to buy.
However, like Easycart, Lemon Squeezy lets you set a percentage discount or a fixed amount. You can also set a start and expiration date for the discount, limit its use, and enable a monthly subscription discount.
